4 Key Designs for an Effective Website for SEO

by Joey Serohijos • March 17, 2023

Designing websites can be quite a challenge, as websites are everyone else’s gateway to your brand. With 87% of users using the search engine Google to research about local businesses in 2022, of course, you want it to look as good as possible. But a back-end secret that new, start-up businesses normally overlooked is SEO.

What is SEO anyway?

SEO and How It Helps Online Business

Digital marketers rely on SEO, or search engine optimization, to help with your website visibility among many websites floating on the internet. SEO is your back-end powerhouse that makes sure your website gets the foot traffic and heat points it deserves. Simply put, it helps people see your brand online.

In hindsight, SEO may seem less significant than website design since it’s not very seen. But once the statistic reports are in, it would then make sense how SEO makes an incredible difference when incorporated properly into your marketing strategy.

So for a wholistically effective e-commerce page, front ends (website aesthetics) and back ends (SEO) should be equally given importance. But then again, how do we know if our website is good for SEO?

What Makes a Good  SEO Website

Let this section be our guide to standards. This section will answer the question, what does the internet consider a good web design for SEO and what are the key considerations in terms of website building that is SEO effective:

  1. Mobile-friendliness

Recent studies show that 60.67% of total website traffic comes from mobile devices. This means that more than half of your traffic comes from visitors who view your webpage from their smartphones.

When your website is unable to adjust to different mobile screens, it may have difficulties in display, such as distorted images and slow page loading. These will inevitably lead to frustrated one-time visitors who won’t spend much time on your website or who may never return.

  1. Website Speed

Site speed is essential for business and e-commerce. It is a strong influence on conversion, return customers and overall search engine rankings. Google’s Core Web Vitals encourages to make sure loading time is at a premium to rank better; a good loading speed is 2.5 seconds or faster.

What happens when your website loads longer than 2.5 seconds? It discourages your visitors from staying longer on your page, thus lowering business opportunities and expansion of clientele.

A good first step in improving website speed could be making sure your file sizes are small. Smaller files require shorter loading time; Google also favors websites with small files because this signal they are websites that load quicker.

  1. Website Navigation

The basic and most important reason why website navigation shouldn’t be overlooked is user experience. When your website is easy to use and get around, it dramatically improves your traffic and longevity of stay. Especially when your website functions for e-commerce (too), web navigation with top user experience is more likely to improve sales and conversion, and overall traffic.

Website navigation is especially important for larger sites but is also encouraged for all sites alike. Also, sitemaps are helpful tools in ensuring your website for easy navigation. Think of it as an actual map before a road trip no one in the car has taken before.

  1. High-Quality, Readable Content

Content is king, and this is mainly why readability ranks in the long run. Whether your website runs on content or e-commerce, the text in it is the anchor that makes sense of anything and everything plastered on your webpage.

Once they’re on your web page, an effective way to keep them longer is to make high-quality content available for them. What do we mean when we say high quality? We mean content that offers relevant takeaways and is easily understandable because of the practical choice of words and rephrasing.

Designing websites for SEO is a healthy mixture of technicality and creativity. When the key points that serve effective SEO are addressed, web designers are free to dress up their websites as they like.
